Development and applications of traffic simulation models at the Karlsruhe Institut fur Verkehrswesen

Abstract

This paper is based on two decades of research by the Karlsruhe Instituit fur Verkehrwesen on applying simulations models of traffic flow.The paper discusses the general philosophy behind the development of traffic simulation models in order to provide an understanding of why this particular approach was taken.
