In recent years Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) emerged as an innovative approach to overcome the mobility issues of the urban cities. Many developed and developing countries implemented BRT to eradicate their transport problems. After their extensive journey of planning and implementation process these cities now own exceedingly organized BRT system. Their extensive journey of BRT implementation is source of valuable lessons for other cities that are planning to implement BRT. In this paper BRT systems in Curitiba, Bogota, Santiago, Jakarta, Beijing, Ottawa and Brisbane are analysed. Qualitative analysis of different document is the methodology adopted for this research. Reviewing BRT systems in these cities shows that overall success factor of BRT can be divided into four broad categories; institutional factors, planning and design factors, infrastructural factors, and acceptability factors. These success factors are interrelated to each other and among them institutional factor is the most important. In case of lack of institutional capacity other success factors cannot be achieved.
